Dr. Andrew Ott, a Hillsboro native and podiatrist who just completed an award-winning residency in New York, signed an employment agreement on Friday, July 20, to practice in his hometown.
"Dr. Ott will be an employee of Hillsboro Area Hospital, practicing out of our Specialty Clinics beginning Oct. 1," hospital CEO Rex Brown said. "Having a specialist in a community of our size is unusual. He will be a benefit to our rural communities."
Dr. Ott graduated with a doctorate in podiatric medicine and surgery in 2014 from Des Moines University, where he was class vice president, a teaching assistant at the medical school and a member of the Council of Presidents and Curriculum Committee.
He completed his residency in New York City, based at New York Presbyterian Queens where, as a third-year resident, he was awarded for earning the highest score in the country on the American Board of Podiatric Medicine training exam.
During his schooling, he completed advanced training with internal and external fixation techniques, reconstructive adult foot and ankle surgery, arthroscopy, limb salvage, pediatric foot deformities, sports-related related injuries, trauma, plastic surgery, dermatopathology and wound care of the lower extremity.
Dr. Ott is most excited to provide "access to several services that in the past were only available in Springfield or St. Louis. People will now have an opportunity to have surgical procedures performed at Hillsboro Area Hospital that were never available in the past."
